My preschool is situated at the bottom of a hill called Skansberget in the centre of Gothenburg. We're a new school that started out in these temporary houses one year ago. We have 30 small children between the ages of 1 to 3 and we're 6 teachers. Since we were all new last year we've worked hard on becoming a group who feels safe and confident together. We work a lot on social skills; how to be a good friend, how to play together etc. We believe in the capable child. Even when you're very little you can do and know so much.
For a school situated in town we luckily have a lot of space outdoors. We have one inner yard (asphalt/concrete) with sandboxes and a big swing and one outer yard with a lawn, trees, bushes and several boxes where we plant things like carrots and flowers. Hope you will enjoy getting to know us better with coming pics. I look forward seeing yours!
Monica, I am finding it interesting to learn that your preschools are dedicated to such young age groups. In Australia we have preschool for children aged 3-6 years mostlyand Long Day Care for children aged 0-6 years. Most children begin school at age 5.
ReplyDeleteWe firmly believe in children as capable, this is something we teach in my workplace. I look forward to seeing how this looks in practice as you share with us.

It's lovely to hear about how early education and care operates in other parts of the world! Interestingly I was at a conference on the weekend and saw a video of children in a service in Europe. They were about 18months to two years old and were showing amazing social and conflict resolution skills. It seems that the teachers are very thoughtful about when to intervence and children gets lots of opportunity to attempt to resolve problems themselves.
